What We Publish

The Rooted Almanac exists to help you grow things well. Our library is built around evergreen, practical content that stays useful season after season:

  • How-to guides that walk you through a specific task, from starting seeds to overwintering perennials
  • Reference guides that explain the why behind a practice, so you can adapt it to your own yard, climate, and soil
  • Buying and selection guides that help you choose the right tool, plant, or material for the job

We favor timeless fundamentals over trends and news. If a topic will matter just as much three years from now, it belongs here.

How We Create Our Content

We draft with the help of AI tools, and every piece passes through human editorial review before it goes live. That review is where the real work happens. An editor on our team checks each draft for accuracy, clarity, and practical value, verifies claims against reliable sources, and rewrites anything that reads as generic or hollow.

We do not publish auto-generated content without editorial oversight. AI helps us organize research and produce first drafts faster; it does not get the final say. A human decides what we stand behind and publishes it under our name.

Accuracy and Sourcing

Gardening advice has to hold up in the real world, so we hold it to a plain standard:

  • We ground horticultural claims in established science and widely accepted growing practice.
  • When guidance depends on your region, we say so, rather than implying one rule fits every garden.
  • We prefer durable, reputable sources over whatever is trending, and we flag genuine uncertainty instead of papering over it.
  • Where experts reasonably disagree, we tell you that and explain the trade-offs.

Plants are living things and conditions vary. We aim to be honest about what is well established, what is situational, and what comes down to your own judgment.

Our Approach to Product Guides

Our buying and selection guides are written from category knowledge: how a type of product works, what features matter, and how to match a choice to your needs and budget range.

We do not fabricate hands-on testing. If we have not physically tested a product, we will not pretend we have, and we avoid staged “we tried it” claims. When our guidance is based on specifications, established use, and category expertise rather than personal trials, we present it that way.

Advertising and Affiliate Independence

Some pages contain affiliate links or display advertising, and that support helps keep the site free to read. It never buys a recommendation.

Our editorial choices are made independently of any commercial relationship. We recommend what we believe serves you, and a partnership, commission, or ad placement does not move a product up our list or soften an honest assessment. Where relevant, we disclose affiliate relationships clearly.

Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes, and when we do, we fix them openly rather than quietly. If you spot an error, we want to hear about it. Our Corrections page explains how we handle updates and how to flag something that needs a second look.
